Joel Elford

Joel established Black Market Barbershop with the goal of virtually every client leaving the shop having had a laugh, and an appealing cut. Unlike most other barbershops, Black Market offers quality cuts and one-on-one service that makes every customer feel valued. Joel decided to open his shop during the pandemic because he saw a need for an alternative barbershop that put people first.

Appreciation post Throwback to three years ago, when I had never cut a head of hair before. Fast forward three years, a couple thousand cuts, two apprentices and a lot of new friends later, I'm feeling incredibly grateful to have landed in this career. Thankful to Evan from @burrowbarberingco for mentoring me and being a good friend. Without you I probably wouldn't be in this line of work. And I want to thank everyone that has ever let me cut their hair, whether you've been by the shop once, or twenty times. You're a friend. Shout out to @shawausten and @mike_nasso for being great apprentices. Really looking forward to seeing what the future holds. Shout out to @manbehindthechairwhitby for taking a chance on me- grateful for that experience. Last and not least, Jesus. For many this will seem out of left field, but I believe God has blessed me with this career. Can't just ignore him. Thank you.

I have been seeing Joel for my haircuts for about a year now and I have nothing but good things to say. Ever since I switched to him I’ve been getting compliments on my fade and cuts regularly. I’ve been going to Joel for my haircuts for a while now. He always greets me with a smile and it’s always a good time, with good conversation when I’m in the chair. It’s really clean and covid friendly. The cuts are always done to perfection. Joel uses a right light to catch any hair out of place. I always get complements on my fades. Would 100% recommend.
